Nashville: a city where birds and people can thrive

In May 2023, Nashville became the first city in Tennessee and the 31st in the United States to be designated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as an Urban Bird Treaty City.

The Urban Bird Treaty program is a unique, collaborative effort between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and participating U.S. cities to help alleviate bird population declines and create connected conservation communities through enhanced opportunities for people living in urban areas to engage in bird-related recreation, conservation, education, science, and monitoring.

As part of this designation, numerous Nashville partners developed and committed to implementing the Nashville Bird Agenda that lays out a series of actions to:

      • Conserve Urban Habitat for Birds

      • Reduce Urban Hazards to Birds

      • Educate and Engage Urban Communities in Caring about and Conserving Birds and their Habitats

Bird Safe Nashville is proud to have been on the core team to develop the Nashville Bird Agenda committed to working with partners to ensure its implementation.
